What is a triple pane window? When installed correctly, triple pane windows are the best invisible barrier you can have on your home.
What makes triple pane so good? They’re called triple pane windows because they have three sheets of glass. What makes them so effective is they provide two pockets of compressed gas in between the front and back panes of glass with the third pane in the center. Triple Pane vs Double Pane Glass – Compared to double pane windows, triple panes are usually around 40% more efficient than the same manufactuer’s double pane. Window efficiency is measured by it’s U-factor, the lower the U-factor the better. If you want to know more about U-factors, click here. Because of the extra pane of glass, triple pane windows are much heavier than a double pane, and it provides serious protections from the elements.
Do they look just as good? Do they make double hung triple pane windows? Yes, triple pane windows can be made into all the same shapes as double pane. For those of you who don’t know what a double hung window is, a double hung window is the most popular window on the market. A double hung window opens up from the bottom and down from the top, and typically fold in to make cleaning easier, especially on multiple-story buildings. How can you tell your triple pane window is super energy efficient? Check for the NFRC Label. If your window has a U-factor (top left of the picture) of over .2, then you probably don’t have a good quality triple pane window.
