Available Roof Venting Systems

Living in New England we have a bounty of beautiful old homes that provide character and history with centuries of stories living in the walls. But with that, we also have homes that need maintenance and a critical piece of that is the health of your roof. Ensuring there is proper ventilation will dramatically extend the life of the roof.
Every home is different and some are easier to convert to a newer vent system. Our favorite system is a ridge vent on top of your roof, supported by a soffit vent system. Ridge vents are installed at the peak of the roof. What is needed in most cases is to cut a 2” opening on both sides of the peak to let air out and then install the vent. This is a baffled system that only lets air out and not snow or water in—important when you live in a region where the climate changes at the drop of a dime.
I must mention that some contractors do not cut in to the roof. They just nail it on and it appears to be right but it is not allowing proper venting. I only mention this because we find this problem many times when we are asked to come for roof repairs.
